The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is designed for adults and children interested in becoming Catholic, previously baptized Catholic or in another Christian tradition, did not celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist), and/or has questions about the Catholic faith. Interested individuals enter a formation period of catechesis designed to educate the participants to Catholic doctrine, worship, prayer, the Church and the sacraments. As they continue this journey through Lent, the participants will then celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) and become full members of the Roman Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday, or an appropriate time for the individual.
Divided into four major periods of time (Inquiry, Catechumenate, Purification and Enlightenment, and Mystagogy), the candidate will learn about the Catholic faith and work with their sponsor on their new life.
The OCIA program for Portage North is held at St Joseph Parish in Mantua, Thursdays at 7:00 pm.
