The Legion of Mary is an organization committed to the spiritual formation of its members, who in turn reach out to the community through spiritual works of mercy. It is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 3 million active members in almost every country of the world. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members. It is open to all Catholic men and women who faithfully practice their religion and who have the desire to participate in the Church’s evangelistic mission through membership in the Legion.
The works of Legionaries are for the benefit of the young and old, rich and poor, the marginalized, people of any religion, and people who profess no faith. The works are primarily
Spiritual Works of Mercy as opposed to material aid.
